Bringing many Dukes together as One Duke

People in our community wear many hats, and those hats change over time.  Students may simultaneously be employees through a work-study or other arrangement.  Employees may also be alumni or donors.  Alumni may be volunteers or academic collaborators.

As an individual's relationship to Duke evolves, so may their personal identity - such as name or pronouns.

Duke Identity and Access Management works to ensure that individuals have a single Duke identity record that can keep up with these changes and ensure an appropriate user experience across Duke services.

Components

Identity

Identity and Access Management issues Duke UniqueIDs to uniquely identify Duke users.

Please see Your Duke Identity for more on what information is associated with a Duke UniqueID and how that information is obtained.

Authentication

Identity and Access Management provides infrastructure to allow individuals to log in to Duke services in a consistent way.

Duke students, employees, and sponsored guests log in to electronic services using a Duke NetID, while others use Duke OneLink to log in.

Authorization

Identity and Access Management supports many ways for administrators to automate access to Duke services.

This most often happens through Duke's group management system, Grouper, which is tied into many services at Duke.
